Orlandice, Owner of Orlandice Nguyen Interior Design took a leap of faith when starting her business. We had the awesome opportunity to interview her and learn more about her passion, aspirations and tips for small business owners thinking about making the shift.
1. What is your business and why that field?
My business is Orlandice Nguyen Interior Design Ltd. It is an Interior Design studio that provides varies of interior design services for our clients, from designing full service interior design to creative design. We design projects from concepts stage to completion. I have worked in the design industry for almost 9 years working in residential and commercial designing. I have a dual background in architecture technology and Interior Design. I have a passion for interior architecture and enjoy creating designs. I love every aspect and creativity that goes into designing a space.
2. What inspired you to start your business?
I have longed for owning my interior design business for quite sometime. I would just talk about it or dream about it. They were only thoughts until (believe it or not) the shut down and our current situation made me really reflect on my self and my goals. I turned it into a opportunity and inspiration to pursue and focus on my dream of launching my very own Interior Design Business while the same time working on projects of my own have just added more to that fire of inspiration and that is how the launch of Orlandice Nguyen Interior Design Ltd. became official. I honestly couldn’t do it with out the support of my husband, family and friends.
3. What are your personal goals?

My personal goals is to continue to work hard and grow the Interior Design Studio, bringing new innovate designs to my clients. I have so much ideas I want to implement in the business that can benefit my clients and I am working hard to make it happen. I want to live my life to the fullest, balancing my personal life. Now I am growing my own business, I have the opportunity to raise and watch my daughters grow up which have been a big goal of mine. I want to be that role model for them, inspiring them to pursue their aspirations one day because their mom pursued hers.
4. What do you do to de-stress and manage burnout?
I have personally experienced burnout about a year ago and it isn’t fun, it takes over your body mentally and emotionally that you need to step back and recharge your body. I try not to put to much on my plate that I can’t handle. Being well organized, Scheduling in my time wisely and making time for myself are important. I have learned that self love and time is the best medicine to de-stress, helps collect your thoughts and get focus.
5. Is there a time you wanted to give up? How do you overcome that feeling?
There are a few times in my life, I wanted to through in the towel. I have learned from my past experiences in my design career to never give up and pursue what makes you happy. There are going to be tough times and challenges through out your career but it is how you rebound and overcome from it. Having that true love for interior architecture have really kept me going.
6. What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
My advice for aspiring entrepreneurs, is to challenge and believe in yourself. Put in as much time you can to build your business because time is money. Challenge yourself to take the risk, You will never know, unless you do it. Don’t start tomorrow, start today! Lastly do what you love.Photo credit: @kmhforte.jpg
